1. Who is responsible for your data?
Kiwi Driver is provided by Flightless Code. We are the data controller responsible for personal information processed in connection with the Kiwi Driver application. For all privacy enquiries, contact support@project-skye.com.
2. Information the app handles
Kiwi Driver is built on an offline-first architecture to minimize external data sharing. The app processes the following categories of data:
- Account information: When you register or sign in, we process your phone number or email address and password via Google Firebase Authentication to secure driver access.
- Foreground Location: We access your precise and approximate location (
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION,ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) strictly while the app is actively open in the vehicle cab to sequence delivery stops, calculate travel distance, display your position on maps, and save delivery gate memory. We do not collect background location when the app is closed. Location data is never sold or shared with advertising brokers. - Delivery information: Stop addresses, postcodes, route notes, and delivery completion statuses are stored locally on your device's internal storage.
- Camera (Label OCR): When you use the camera to scan parcel shipping labels, image frames are processed in-memory on your device using Google ML Kit. No camera images or photos are uploaded to external cloud servers or retained.
- Microphone (Voice Co-Pilot): When you tap the microphone button, voice audio is converted to text to execute hands-free commands (e.g. skip stop, undo stop). Audio recordings are not stored or sold.
- Diagnostics: Anonymized crash logs and app performance data may be processed via Firebase to resolve stability issues.
3. Why information is used
We process your data under the following lawful bases:
- Contractual necessity: Providing route sequencing, map navigation, and user authentication requested by the driver.
- Legitimate interests: Enhancing app reliability, troubleshooting crashes, and maintaining cab navigation accuracy.
- Consent: Where device permissions (Location, Camera, Microphone) are explicitly granted by you in Android system settings.
4. Sharing and service providers
We do not monetize, rent, or sell your personal or navigation data. We only share data with essential infrastructure service providers:
- Google Firebase: Secure user authentication and crash diagnostics.
- HERE Maps & Ordnance Survey: Map tile rendering and geocoding services.
5. Storage, security and retention
All communication with backend APIs uses encrypted HTTPS/TLS protocols. Your route history and gate memories are stored locally on your device storage. Authentication profiles are retained while your account remains active.
6. Your rights
Under UK and EU GDPR data protection regulations, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, restrict processing, and lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). To exercise these rights, contact support@project-skye.com or use the in-app account deletion feature.
7. Account and data deletion
Drivers can permanently delete their account and associated data at any time directly in the app (via Profile → Delete Driver Account) or by emailing support@project-skye.com. See our Account & data page for full details.
8. Children
Kiwi Driver is a commercial logistics utility intended for professional couriers and delivery drivers aged 18 and older. It is not directed at or designed for children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy periodically to reflect app enhancements or legal changes. Any material updates will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
